Description
Praia D’el Rey and the area
Praia D’el Rey is a beautiful exclusive golf and beach resort set amongst extensive pine forests and alongside the fabulous Silver Coast beaches. Its world ranked golf course and luxurious clubhouse facilities make this a golfers dream. However, you don’t have to be a golfer to enjoy this resort – we don’t play golf, but love the resort! This is a holiday to relax, soak up the sun, swim and enjoy the warm Portuguese welcome. Anybody looking for a more hectic and frantic holiday, should probably look further south.
The fabulous Praia D’el Rey beach is just a 3 minute walk from our apartment. It stretches for miles in each direction, giving everyone plenty of space (even at the height of the season), and allows you to walk, sunbathe, paddle and swim. But a word of caution, the sea can be very rough at times, so please observe the safety flags. One of our favourite activities is to walk along the beach for about 1 km and then take coffee and ice cream (for the kids) in the stunning on-site Marriott Hotel .Also, a 15min drive offsite takes you to Baleal Beach, where the beach is friendlier for children to swim and is our favourite surfing beach in the area.
The resort Clubhouse is less than a 5 minute drive from the apartment and is very family friendly with a bar, large lounge area, TV’s, dining tables, and a large outdoor terrace. Excellent food is served throughout the day and evening, and there is also a more formal restaurant which is open every evening. Residents can also visit the 5* Marriott Hotel which is about a 5 minute drive from the apartment. The hotel boasts three restaurants and numerous bars which non residents can use. There is also a luxury spa, gym and pools which can be used at extra cost. There is an atm machine located in the hotel. The nearby towns also have a wide variety of family friendly restaurants that cater to all tastes and price levels, with fish dishes featuring prominently.
Nearby places on interest include the medieval walled town of Obidos, the fishing village of Peniche and the market town of Caldas da Rainha. Caldas is best for shopping with its daily markets, the large variety of interesting shops in the streets nearby the market and its choice of several supermarkets. If you have time, Lisbon is a great city to visit for a day or two also and is about one hours drive away.
Our Apartment
Our beautifully furnished and extensively equipped, 3 bedroom/3 bathroom apartment is in a stunning beach village setting within the PDR resort, and is just a three minute walk to the glorious sandy beach that runs for miles along the Silver Coast.
The property has 3 bedrooms, and 2 full bathrooms (1 in ensuite master bedroom). There is also an extra cloakroom off the hallway. The apartment is on the ground floor and includes an open plan living and dining room, and a good sized well equipped kitchen. There is also very large sea-view terrace with outside furniture (dinning table, chairs and sun loungers), that gets the sun for almost all of the day – my favourite place for an early evening drink! The Kitchen has everything you would expect from electric oven, microwave and gas hob to utilities such as a dishwasher, washing machine/dryer, fridge/freezer and breakfast table. There is a spacious lounge/dining area with dining table and seating for 6 people, 2 large sofas, coffee table, TV, DVD including a selection of films, Playstation 2 plus controllers and a selection of games, Sky + box ( you will need to bring your own viewing card) and a CD player. There is also a matching unit in the dining area housing a selection of board games, books, playing cards etc, to keep everyone busy. All linen and apartment towels (but not beach towels) are provided, and the apartment will be cleaned fully before each arrival and after each departure. Underground car parking is available very close to the apartment and above ground parking is also available. The apartment has an on-demand water system, is fully centrally heated and has a stylish wood burner in the lounge area for those cool autumn/winter nights!
