Description
Our farm and the self-catering cottage are situated in the countryside, 3 kms from the lovely medieval village of Eymet, about 25 kms from Bergerac, Marmande and Ste-Foy-la-Grande and very useful, 20 kms from Bergerac’s airport with Ryanair and Flybe. Set on a valley hillside overlooking the River Dropt, it has been restored in keeping with the traditional Périgordian style of the Dordogne, to make a comfortable place in which to relax and enjoy the quiet beauty of this region.
Eymet has a lovely arcaded market square (the market is on Thursday morning since 1270) and a medieval castle. It has all essential shops, restaurants, cafes, pub, doctors, pharmacies and a supermarket and is pleasant to walk around. In July and August, Eymet also has night markets, when the warm air is full of the scent of fruit, flowers and food you can buy to eat at a table in the square. There is a market in Bergerac on Wednesday and Saturday mornings and a good one in the pretty village of Issigeac on Sunday mornings. Issigeac also has an excellent restaurant with a choice of menus, all at reasonable prices.
Le Pigeonnier (Pigeon’s house) has a dining room with a large table and benches, a table with a High Speed Internet access, a living room with a sofa bed, a television with satellite for the English channels, a dvd player and a fully equipped corner kitchen including a fridge/freezer and microwave, a washing machine and dishwasher, and a dining area. There is also a bathroom with bath and a separate wc.
On the first floor is a double bedroom with a beautiful country armoire with a second double bedroom, which is next to a mezzanine with an extra single bed and a single sofa bed. There is a bathroom with a shower and wc.
On the top floor in the oldest part of the pigeonnier, is the bedroom generally occupied by the children because of the 3 single beds. This room has kept the old beams and has stone walls, which still has the tiny entrances that used to be used by the pigeons.
Outside is a covered terrace with a table and chairs for outside eating and a private garden with another covered terrasse overlooking the fields where cows graze. The swimming pool (8 x 4 metres) is terraced and enclosed and there is a play area for children including table tennis.
